The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 pictured, was scalloped (the paint job) by Baron and Roth, lowered to 6 inches off the ground and had chrome "lakes plugs" installed.
Going to a drive-in movie was quite an experience in the '57 Ford. By design the frame to ground clearance was not much to start with. After the lowering took place, if it should be a double date, before I started to drive up to the speaker, everyone had to get out of the car. I would then drive up on the "hump". Then when everyone got back in, the car would come to rest with the frame solidly on the asphalt.
My '51 Ford had a 1956 Cadillac engine under the hood. You never race with a girl in the car with you. It would not have been "COOL". You also never, ever chose off a car on the street if the guy was with his "chick".
I mean how uncool it would be if you put his car down in front of his date. The ultimate in bad form!
Sometimes we were working into the early morning hours, preparing for the drag races(legal) on the weekend. The local officers would frequently come by and remind us that it was late and to hold the radio and the tuning of the motors down before they got a noise complaint. We almost always had coffee with them, talk cars, and sometimes they would make a run to Tommy's for burgers for us all. Is that Cool or what?
OK... you probably want to know what I did when not playing with the cars or the girls. (smile) I went to school half days, worked half days.
Took lessons at the L.A. Conservatory of Music and Arts for string bass and piano. Hard to believe, huh?
End.
